Eighth-tier AFC Rushden & Diamonds will face League One side Burton Albion in the FA Cup first round in November after beating Morecambe.

AFC Rushden & Diamonds have been drawn to face League One side Burton Albion in the FA Cup first round. The eighth-tier Northern Premier League Division One Midlands club will travel to the Pirelli Stadium in Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire on 7 November, with kick-off at 15:00 BST. This is the first time Rushden & Diamonds, founded in 2011 following the demise of the original Rushden & Diamonds, have reached the tournament's first round proper.

Rushden secured their place in the draw with a 2-1 upset victory over National League North side Morecambe at Hayden Road on Saturday. Earlier in their FA Cup campaign, they had defeated Kimberley Miners Welfare (5-0), Long Eaton United, Desborough Town, Peterborough Sports and Braintree Town of National League South.

Chairman Rob Usher told the approximately 200 people gathered at the club for the draw: 'Let's go put Diamonds back on the map.' Manager Elliot Sandy said: 'This was the dream and 15 months later, we've managed to bring that to the club. This club really deserves it and we're going to enjoy it.' Morecambe boss Adam Lakeland congratulated Diamonds on the win but apologised to his travelling support.
