Cumbria A&E staff thanked with coffee and cake for winter

A&E staff at two Cumbrian hospitals have been served refreshments as part of A&E Appreciation Week.
A&E staff at Westmorland General in Kendal and Furness General in Barrow have been served coffee and cake as a show of appreciation. The events were organised by the Rapid Relief Team (RRT) as part of its second annual A&E Appreciation Week, ahead of the pressures of winter.
Around 120 staff at the two hospitals were served refreshments by volunteers. Bruce Borwood, RRT's local team leader, said the gestures aim to show that staff work is 'truly valued' and that 'kind gestures like this can make a big difference' to morale.
A&E Appreciation Week was established by the RRT last year to give the public a chance to thank emergency department teams, whose work often goes unrecognised. The charity, made up of volunteers from the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, hopes to see the week officially designated as an annual national event. A survey by RRT of 2,063 UK adults found that more than 70 per cent of people in the North West believe A&E staff do not receive enough recognition for their work.
