The Dallas Cowboys lost 24-16 at home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday night, despite being 9.5-point favourites. The Buccaneers were previously winless and started undrafted rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels in place of injured starter Baker Mayfield.

Dak Prescott threw two interceptions, including a late one that sealed the comeback attempt. With about eight and a half minutes remaining, the Cowboys trailed 24-10 but mounted a 10-play, 99-yard drive in just over three minutes, with wide receiver George Pickens making a leaping catch in the end zone to make it 24-16. The Cowboys' two-point conversion attempt failed.

Owner Jerry Jones, 83, slammed his hand on a table during the game in obvious frustration. After the match, he told reporters the loss was 'very disappointing' and said the Buccaneers 'really took it to us' particularly 'inside'. The Buccaneers rushed for 241 yards. Pickens also visibly vented his frustration by slamming his helmet into the turf after Prescott's late interception.

The loss prompted strong reactions from Cowboys fans online. Some directed criticism at tight end Jake Ferguson and his wife, influencer Haley Cavinder, who attended the game. One video showed a fan wearing a Dak Prescott jersey smashing his television and running it over multiple times with a pickup truck.
