A man in his 30s was stabbed to death in Mt Druitt, western Sydney, on Friday night, with police searching for about a dozen people.

Officers were called to Cleeve Close in Mt Druitt about 9pm on Friday after reports of an assault. They found a man stabbed in the torso and provided assistance, but he died at the scene before paramedics could help.

CCTV vision showed a group of several men on a street before one threw a punch and was then chased and attacked by three others. A bladed weapon was used in the attack, though police said they would wait for a post-mortem examination to confirm the exact type. A number of items were seized at the scene.

Blacktown commander Superintendent Brendan Gorman said detectives were open to several possibilities. The man was believed to have 'some history' with police, and possible gangland links are among the lines of inquiry. Whether the attack was random or targeted remains to be determined. Police have seized CCTV and mobile phone videos and are appealing to the public for further vision and information.
