Poole-based illustrator Saiorse Lou has achieved a major career milestone with the publication of Witchy Boo: Casts Her First Spell by Puffin UK. Written by Arden Jones, the story follows a gentle ghost named Boo who discovers she does not have to be scary after finding a witch's hat. The book was released nationwide on 3 September as the first entry in a four-book series.

Lou studied at the Arts Institute in Bournemouth, now AUB. She described her creative passion as rooted in fantasy and the natural world of Dorset, where she grew up exploring Corfe Castle, woodlands and the coast. Two decades earlier, she had collaborated with fantasy author Terry Pratchett, an experience that gave her confidence in pursuing illustration as a career. After university, she took time away from work to raise her young son.
