Daniel Dubois defends his WBO heavyweight title against Fabio Wardley in a rematch at London's O2 Arena, five months after stopping Wardley in the 11th round.
Daniel Dubois will defend his WBO heavyweight title against Fabio Wardley tonight at London's O2 Arena in a rematch of their May encounter in Manchester. The first fight was a dramatic affair in which Wardley dropped Dubois twice in the opening rounds – after just ten seconds and again in the third – before Dubois recovered both times to turn the bout around.
Dubois went on to overwhelm Wardley, who absorbed sustained punishment but remained on his feet until the referee waved off the fight in the 11th round. That victory began Dubois' second reign as world heavyweight champion. Wardley had held the WBO belt after being upgraded following Oleksandr Usyk's decision to relinquish it, and had won the interim title by stopping Joseph Parker.
Dubois has weighed in at a career high 253.9 pounds and is a heavy favourite for tonight. Wardley, who will be lighter, has chosen to go straight into the rematch rather than take warm-up fights, a decision TechRadar suggests may be questionable given the conclusive nature of his defeat. The lighter fighter may also adopt a different approach after tiring while chasing an early knockout in May.
Dubois is 29 years old and from Greenwich. The victory will allow him to cement his status as the best heavyweight on the planet, with Oleksandr Usyk, Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury all approaching the end of their careers, according to TechRadar. Wardley, a former white-collar boxer from Suffolk, knows he has the power to trouble Dubois and will be determined to reclaim a world title.
The main card begins at 7pm, with Dubois and Wardley expected to ring walk at approximately 10:30pm. The event will be shown exclusively on DAZN pay-per-view at £24.99, or included free with a DAZN Ultimate subscription. BBC Radio 5 Live will provide free audio commentary.
