Thomas Markle Sr., estranged father of Duchess Meghan, has been arrested in Florida and charged with possessing child sex abuse materials. He was released on bond and ordered to have no contact with minors, returning to the dementia care facility where he has been living. He had denied the allegations previously.

The New York Post reports that Thomas Markle Jr., the suspect's son, has received an apology from Philippine police after being named as a person of interest in the investigation. A source close to the case told the Sun that police officers 'were very apologetic' and that 'the matter has been cleared up'. Officials had previously received information from a witness alleging that underage girls had been brought to a residence connected to the investigation, though police emphasised that Thomas Jr. was not considered a suspect.

The criminal complaint indicates that FBI agents searched two storage units registered to Markle within the Central District of California on 30 October and 4 November. In those searches, agents found material suspected of containing child sexual abuse imagery.
