Croydon celebrates its film locations with 'Crollywood' tour

Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 25 Oct, 12:31 · Archive

Croydon will host a film location tour showcasing sites from Batman, The Da Vinci Code and other productions.

Croydon's starring role in film will be showcased through a 'Crollywood' location tour as part of the Croydonites arts festival next month. The tour will highlight sites used in Batman, The Da Vinci Code, Criminal, Black Mirror and Taylor Swift's Opalite, as well as the town's status as birthplace of Oscar-winning director David Lean.

Richard Dedomenici, who will lead the tour, also creates 'Redux' versions of movie scenes shot in Croydon. This year he will premiere a remake of a scene from the 2025 comedy thriller Heads of State, which starred Idris Elba as the British Prime Minister. The scene was originally shot at Old Apollo House, a 1970s office block.

Anna Arthur, founder and director of the Croydonites Festival, noted that other productions including The Bill, Peep Show, Made in Dagenham and All of Us Strangers have also used Croydon locations. She said many people are unaware of the extent of filming in the area. 'We have lots of tower blocks and concrete and quite flexible locations which means Croydon has doubled as New York or Gotham City,' she said, adding that the local authority is supportive of film crews.
