Unranked UCF defeated No. 2 BYU 39–31 in double overtime in Orlando on Saturday, delivering the biggest ranked win in the programme's history. The Knights were a 6½-point underdog coming into the game. The match was decided by controversial officiating in the closing stages, with UCF receiving a roughing-the-kicker penalty that gave them a fresh set of downs whilst they had been settling for a field goal in the first overtime period. BYU's special teams had blocked what would have been a game-winning field goal to force the extra period. UCF scored a touchdown and two-point conversion with their extra life, then stopped BYU in double overtime. Knights fans stormed the field to celebrate.
