Donald Trump campaigned in Port Huron, Michigan on Sunday for Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers and other Republicans in the midterm elections. The Michigan Senate race between Rogers and Democrat Abdul El-Sayed remains closely contested.

During the rally, Trump made comments about rapper Nicki Minaj's appearance and revisited remarks he had made earlier in October about Ohio Senator Jon Husted's body. Trump said of Husted: 'I don't do this with men very often. I started examining his body, because I didn't know he was a great athlete.' At Sunday's rally, Trump defended the earlier comments, stating he had only recently learned Husted was a college athlete and that his remarks were made 'in fun'.

Trump characterised media coverage of his comments as 'fake news'. He said: 'I looked at his ass, and I've never done that with a man before. It's true. Off the record, women yes, men no, OK.' The Independent reports that Trump also spent portions of the nearly two-hour speech discussing other topics including Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and acquiring Greenland.
