A new bar billiards table has launched at Norwich's Rumsey Wells pub, where the traditional game is experiencing a revival.

The Rumsey Wells pub in Norwich has installed a new four-pin bar billiards table following strong player interest at its launch earlier this month. The pub partnered with Norfolk-based business About 60 on the project. Dan Searle, who has run the pub with his wife Katie for 18 years, said the installation represents a return to traditional entertainment. When they first took over, they removed gaming machines including fruit machines, but have now welcomed a more traditional style of pub entertainment back. Mr Searle said: 'The enthusiasm and growth of bar billiards, particularly in Norwich, is really exciting and we cannot wait to be part of it.'

Four-pin bar billiards is thriving locally. Norwich Bar Billiards, which oversees the game in the area, runs the largest organised league in the country, with more than 100 people playing across Norwich and beyond. The game sees players score points by potting balls into holes on a compact table. About 60 founder Peter Brown said the Rumsey Wells was an ideal partner, adding: 'They understand the game and want to make it a central part of the pub's identity.' The project brought together local talent, with tradesman Freddie Woolridge restoring the table's woodwork and bar billiards stalwart Mal recovering the table and building the scoring boards.
