A tree fell on a car at a York hostel overnight as Storm Boelo brought gusts of up to 55mph.

A tree fell on a car at Astor Hostels in Holgate Road, York, overnight from Saturday into Sunday as Storm Boelo brought winds gusting up to 55mph. There were no injuries. Tree surgeons were on site at 7.30am on Sunday to remove the tree, which had come to rest against the hostel building. Guests in rooms where the tree was resting were moved to alternative accommodation, and a hostel spokesperson said the premises remained open with 'everything is fine'.

The Met Office issued a yellow warning for wind in York and North Yorkshire until 9pm on Sunday. The forecaster warned that travel disruption and power cuts are expected. Flying debris is 'likely', and the storm will 'probably' cause damage to buildings, including tiles being blown from roofs.

Storm Boelo follows Storm Austen, the first named storm of the season, which brought disruption across the country on Friday.
