Haitian man charged with murdering wife outside Pennsylvania Walmart

Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 28 Oct, 05:32 · Archive

A Haitian national has been charged with murder after his estranged wife was shot outside a Walmart in Pennsylvania where she worked.

Destino Jean Louis, 23, a Haitian national, has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of his estranged wife, Latosha Ann Cooper, 45, outside a Walmart store in Pennsylvania on 21 October. U.S. Marshals arrested Jean Louis on Friday 23 October in Philadelphia on charges of overstaying his visa. The Montgomery County District Attorney then charged him with murder whilst he was in federal custody.

According to investigators, Jean Louis allegedly hid near a bush outside the Walmart where Cooper worked, wearing a mask, and waited for her night shift to end before the shooting occurred. The couple had married in March. Immigration officials determined the marriage to be not legitimate and was only for immigration purposes, according to investigators. Cooper had withdrawn her petition to sponsor Jean Louis' visa in July, court documents reviewed by Fox News showed.

Jean Louis originally obtained his visa through a relief programme for Haitian nationals, which has since been terminated. He was the prime suspect in Cooper's death.
