Emma Finucane finished third in the women's keirin final at the UCI World Track Championships in Shanghai, missing gold by 14 thousandths of a second.

Great Britain's Emma Finucane claimed bronze in the women's keirin at the UCI World Track Championships in Shanghai on Sunday, missing gold by just 14 thousandths of a second. Neutral athlete Alina Lysenko won the final, with Germany's Lea Friedrich taking silver.

Finucane, 23, had led into the home straight but was pipped to the finish line. The bronze medal was her third of the week, adding to silver medals won in the team sprint and individual sprint. This was the first time she has medalled in all three events at a World Championships.

Finucane told BBC Sport she was proud of her performance despite missing out on gold. 'I had a special feeling about today, I felt really strong and going into that final, I don't know what else I could have done,' she said. 'I raced with my instinct, I didn't come off thinking "I wish I gave more", I gave it everything I could out there.'

She added that the week's results would help her prepare for the next Olympics. 'Ultimately we are learning for the Olympics, that's a huge goal. I put myself in winning positions in every race and that's something I am proud of,' she said. Finucane won Britain's first Olympic gold in the women's team sprint at Paris 2024 alongside Katy Marchant and Sophie Capewell, and has previously taken bronze in both the individual sprint and keirin at the Games.

In the team sprint in Shanghai, Great Britain was beaten by China, with Rhianna Parris-Smith replacing the newly retired Marchant in the team.
