Swimming coach jailed for grooming and sending explicit images

Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 30 Oct, 21:20 · Archive

Mark Greenbaum, 30, has been jailed for grooming a teenage girl and sending her naked images of himself.

Mark Greenbaum, a 30-year-old swimming coach, has been jailed for grooming a teenage girl and sending her naked pictures of himself. He initially contacted the girl on TikTok before taking her and her parents out to dinner in order to 'ingratiate' himself with her family. When people raised concerns about his contact with the girl, he instructed her to deny they had been in touch.

At Chelmsford Crown Court, prosecutor Natalie Mahoney said Greenbaum and the girl would exchange messages late into the night. He asked her inappropriate questions about her previous sexual experiences before apologising, and requested that she send intimate photos. In return, he showed her a full-body naked picture of himself taken in front of a mirror. When he began discussing having sex with her, the girl did not know how to stop the conversations.

Greenbaum was charged with one count each of engaging in sexual communication with a child and causing a child to look at an image of sexual activity. His defence counsel, Craig Rush, said Greenbaum accepted his behaviour had 'crossed the line' but denied he had become involved in swimming to target children. Mr Rush noted that Greenbaum had told the girl they could not have a physical relationship until she was 18, and suggested he had panicked when instructing her to deny their contact.
