Jeremy Clarkson has said he wants to make a documentary about Victorian explorer David Livingstone before he dies.

Jeremy Clarkson has revealed in his Sunday Times column that he wants to make a documentary about Victorian explorer David Livingstone before his death. The 66-year-old Clarkson's Farm presenter wrote that he has 'never, in my life, uncovered a story to rival it'. The revelation comes after Clarkson underwent an emergency heart procedure in October 2024, when doctors discovered one artery supplying blood to his heart was completely blocked and another was becoming dangerously narrowed.

Clarkson listed Livingstone among his favourite explorers, alongside Speke and Burton, who operated in Africa in the late nineteenth century. Livingstone explored parts of Africa that were little known to Europeans at the time, mapping large areas and contributing significantly to geographical knowledge of the continent. He discovered and named Victoria Falls in 1855, which local people called Mosi-oa-Tunya, meaning 'The Smoke That Thunders'.

Beyond his exploration work, Livingstone served as a Christian missionary and medical doctor, establishing missions and travelling widely to spread Christianity. He also campaigned against the East African slave trade, believing that greater commerce and missionary work could help end slavery. Clarkson has previously made several documentaries, including The Victoria Cross: For Valour, The Greatest Raid of All Time and Jeremy Clarkson's War Stories.
