Former Vice President Kamala Harris has urged Democrats against impeaching President Trump, saying votes are lacking and resources should focus on investigations.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris has cautioned Democrats against impeaching President Trump if they regain control of the House in the midterm elections. Speaking in an interview, Harris said going in the direction of impeachment is 'not a good idea' because the Democratic Party has 'limited resources' that should instead be directed towards 'accountability' and 'investigations'.

Harris emphasised that the votes for conviction would not be there, citing her experience in the Senate during Trump's previous impeachment attempts. She called for Democrats to focus on 'getting stuff done' and said the party should be 'ruthless' in pursuing its agenda, though she clarified this did not mean being 'cruel'. Harris suggested Democrats should be 'uncompromising' in restoring accountability and policies they support, including Medicaid and checks on military actions.

Trump faced two impeachments during his first term. Harris voted to convict him over an alleged attempted quid pro quo involving Ukraine aid and was vice president during the Senate trial following his second impeachment for allegedly inciting the Capitol riot on 6 January 2021.
