Two people have been jailed for life for the murder of a man beaten to death with an iron in Shipley, Yorkshire.

Two people have been jailed for life for murdering a man who was beaten to death with an iron in Shipley, Yorkshire. Zbigniew Chlebek, 67, of Stead Street, Shipley, and Beata Walczak, 58, of Barkerend Road, Bradford, were both sentenced at Bradford Crown Court with a minimum term of 15 years.

Jaroslav Daniszewski, 43, was found dead in Chlebek's one-bedroom flat on 22 April last year following an all-day drinking session. The victim was a friend of Chlebek and the boyfriend of Walczak. He had suffered 24 separate wounds to his head and face, along with catastrophic brain injuries that rendered him deeply unconscious and unable to defend himself.

Sentencing the pair, His Honour Judge Geoffrey Marson KC said both had taken part in a 'brutal and merciless attack'. He stated that whilst Daniszewski lay unconscious on the ground, he was struck another severe blow to the head with the iron at least half an hour later, causing a fatal injury to the brain and 'almost instant death'. The judge said: 'You were finishing him off and making sure he was dead.'

The judge noted that 'we will never know what the motive or cause of this attack was'. After time spent on remand is taken into account, Chlebek will serve 14 years and 168 days, whilst Walczak will serve 14 years and 169 days.
