Summarised from 3 outlets · Updated 27 Oct, 15:29 · Archive

Douglas Witterick, 45, was jailed for five years and four months for attacking another man in Godmanchester.

Douglas Witterick, 45, of Park Lane, Godmanchester, was jailed for five years and four months at Peterborough Magistrates' Court, acting as a crown court, for attacking another man during a prolonged assault.

The attack began at about 3am on April 25 at a property in Godmanchester, near Huntingdon. The pair had been talking about people they knew when Witterick became enraged, calling the victim a 'bully'. The victim went to bed, but Witterick burst into the bedroom and began repeatedly punching him, biting his ear and attempting to bite his finger.

After leaving the room, Witterick attacked the victim again in the kitchen as the latter attempted to leave the property. During this second assault, he punched and slapped the victim multiple times, tapped a cannabis grinder on his forehead to intimidate him, kneed him in the thigh and threatened to stab him.

The victim attended Hinchingbrooke Hospital for treatment for serious but not life-threatening injuries. Witterick left the property and handed himself in to police at Parkside Police Station in Cambridge on April 28.

Witterick pleaded guilty to two counts of actual bodily harm. He had also breached a suspended sentence following a previous conviction for actual bodily harm. He was handed a 12-year restraining order against the victim. Detective Sergeant Karolina Olszewska said the attack was 'prolonged and abhorrent' and that the sentence reflected the severity of the offence.
