Quality Discounts eyes return to Norwich after store closures

Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 2 Nov, 14:22 · Archive

Quality Discounts says it aspires to return to Norwich after closing its Sudbury branch on 6 November.

Quality Discounts announced today that its Sudbury branch will cease trading on 6 November due to a decline in footfall to the town. A spokesman said: 'This has been an incredibly difficult decision for the business.'

This closure follows the company's decision to close its last Norwich store on Magdalen Street in October last year. That closure was partly because of a downturn in shoppers due to ongoing works nearby to redevelop Anglia Square. Quality Discounts had moved to Magdalen Street from its original spot in Anglia Square to make way for the demolition of the former shopping centre. Its Anglia Square store was the first ever QD shop, which opened in 1985.

When asked whether the brand would return to Norwich, the spokesman said: 'The simple answer is the aspiration to be back in Norwich is high, it is where QD calls home.' He added: 'The crux of this is the commercial options available to ensure that physical stores are viable; offering our customers the experiences they thrive on when shopping with us.' The company has recently opened a new store in Harleston's London Road in the building which used to house the Factory Shop.
