Summarised from 4 outlets · 5 reports · Updated 8 Oct, 17:48 · Archive

Two Latvian men were arrested after a perimeter fence was breached at RAF Molesworth in Cambridgeshire.

Two Latvian men, aged 36 and 32, were arrested after Ministry of Defence Police identified an abandoned vehicle at RAF Molesworth at about 10pm on Wednesday 7 October. Further searches found a small breach of the perimeter fence. The men were located inside the base perimeter at around 2am on Thursday 8 October and arrested.

The men were initially arrested on suspicion of trespass on a prohibited site and criminal damage. They were then further arrested on suspicion of an offence under Section 4 of the National Security Act 2023 for entering a prohibited place for a purpose prejudicial to the UK. Both men remain in police custody.

Counter Terrorism Policing is investigating the incident. Commander Helen Flanagan, Head of Counter Terrorism Policing London, said there is nothing to currently suggest the incident is connected to events at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire the previous week, though they are keeping an open mind at this stage. Searches are also being carried out at two addresses in Peterborough.
