Quentin Tarantino's first stage play, The Popinjay Cavalier, will open at London's Phoenix Theatre in the West End in March. The swashbuckling comedy, set in 1830s Europe, features Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen and is described by producers as 'a rambunctious comedy of deception and disguise inspired by the grand swashbuckling epics of stage and screen'. The play will be directed by Tarantino himself and marks Cohen's West End debut.

Cohen said of the project: 'When the best director in the world calls, you don't ask questions.' The 54-year-old actor has won two Baftas and three Golden Globes, and has been nominated for three Oscars and six Emmys. Tarantino, best known for films including Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and Inglourious Basterds, has not directed a feature film since Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood in 2019. He has won two Academy Awards, two Baftas and four Golden Globes.

The play is produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment and Sonia Friedman Productions. Meanwhile, Tarantino recently wrote the screenplay for The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth, a sequel due for release in November with David Fincher directing and Brad Pitt returning in the lead role. Tarantino has also written novelisations of both Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood and the new film, to be published on 8 December by Harper.
