The Tampa Bay Rays defeated the Cleveland Guardians 3-1 in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series on Sunday night in Cleveland, taking a 3-2 series lead. Pitcher Drew Rasmussen was the star of the game, allowing just one run over seven innings to earn his second postseason victory. The Rays' offense provided consistent pressure throughout the match.
With the win, Tampa Bay moves closer to capturing their third AL pennant and first since 2020. The Rays will host Game 6 on Monday at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, where they can clinch the series. If necessary, Game 7 would take place on Tuesday.
Historically, road teams that win Game 5 to take a 3-2 lead in a seven-game LCS have gone on to win the series four of five times. The winner of the ALCS will face National League champion Milwaukee in the World Series, which begins on Friday.
