Jordan Barnes admitted assault occasioning actual bodily harm after biting a police officer during arrest.

Jordan Barnes, of Rydal Road, Ulverston, admitted one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm after biting PC Oliver Williams during his arrest in Ulverston on 12 October.

Prosecutor Peter Kelly told South Cumbria Magistrates' Court that officers arrested Barnes, who was a passenger in a vehicle, during the investigation of a 'serious matter'. A struggle ensued during the arrest. Mr Kelly told the court that Barnes, who was larger than PC Williams, bit the officer and applied pressure with his teeth, causing a reddening mark that almost broke the skin and resulted in 'significant pain'. PC Williams used knee strikes and PAVA spray to regain control.

PC Williams had to wait for blood tests due to the risk of a saliva-borne infection. The court heard the officer was anxious about the pain and discomfort caused. Barnes has ten previous convictions for violence against a person. Defence solicitor Trystan Roberts said the physical injury had limited impact and the officer would have been able to continue with his duties.

Magistrates adjourned the case for the probation service to conduct a pre-sentence report. Barnes was granted unconditional bail and will next appear in court for sentence on 19 November.
