Sony has announced translucent PlayStation 5 controllers and console covers in three colours, capitalising on retro gaming nostalgia.
Sony has announced the Prism collection, a range of translucent PlayStation 5 controllers and console covers in three colours: Flare Orange, Emerald Green, and Graphite Gray. The controllers feature translucent plastic wrapping around almost the entire device's frame, allowing users to see the internal components. The console covers offer more limited transparency, showing only the fan and a few other internal parts.
The DualSense controllers are priced at $84.99 (£74.99), while the console covers cost $74.99 (£64.99). These prices are in line with other special edition accessories, though on the higher end compared to basic colour variants. Pre-orders will begin on 10 November, with the official launch scheduled for 4 February 2027.
Sony is joining other technology companies in capitalising on the nostalgic appeal of translucent hardware design, which was popularised by devices such as the original iMac and early PlayStation 2 consoles. The transparent aesthetic became a signature look in the early 2000s and is experiencing a revival through contemporary gaming devices and other consumer electronics.
