Summarised from 3 outlets · Updated 8 Oct, 15:08 · Archive

A poll of 2,000 adults found 46 per cent of Britons prefer firm pillows, compared to 29 per cent who prefer soft ones.

A poll of 2,000 adults commissioned by Premier Inn has found that nearly half of Britons prefer firm pillows. Forty-six per cent opted for the firmer option, while just 29 per cent prefer them soft. The remainder expressed no preference or would choose something between the two extremes.

Seven in ten respondents said that bad quality head support can ruin their entire night's sleep, highlighting the importance of pillow choice to overall sleep quality. The research was conducted to understand the sleep preferences of the country.

On cushion fullness, 69 per cent prefer a fuller pillow compared to seven per cent who like thin or flat options. When it comes to quantity, 41 per cent prefer two pillows on their bed, 13 per cent opt for one, and 42 per cent choose three or more.

Temperature also matters to Britons' sleep: 58 per cent prefer the cool side of their pillow and will flip it throughout the night to maintain the right temperature.

Premier Inn has launched new pillows across its entire hotel estate and enlisted Rylan to promote them. Rylan said: 'From Thurso to Penzance, I cannot believe Premier Inn has put brand new pillows in every single one of their rooms, what a mammoth task in the name of a perfect night's sleep.'
