President Donald Trump branded comedian Bill Maher a 'complete and total loser' in a 1,300-word post on Truth Social.

President Donald Trump published a 1,300-word post on Truth Social attacking comedian Bill Maher on Sunday night, days after welcoming him to the White House for dinner. Trump called Maher a 'complete and total loser' and criticised his HBO show as 'low rated', comparing it to his own 'Top Hit Show', The Apprentice. The attack followed Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt's appearance on Maher's HBO programme Real Time with Bill Maher.

Trump claimed that Maher has begged him to appear on the show, saying: 'When I became President, I agreed to meet, after the first one, and the last one, but never agreed to do his show, which he wants me to do, DESPERATELY — It won't happen!' Trump also accused Maher of dishonesty, saying the comedian used 'fake polls' and lied about his approval ratings. Trump stated that a CNN poll showed he had 98 and 99 per cent support within the Republican Party, describing it as an 'all time record high'.

The president and the comedian have had a rocky relationship, with Trump once suing Maher for joking that his father was an orangutan. Maher previously apologised to Trump over an erroneous claim made on air in August. Despite their tensions, the two have attempted to make peace, including through dinners at the White House earlier this month.
