Fan tributes to Newcastle United legend Kevin Keegan are on public display at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead. Thousands of supporters gathered this weekend to honour the Magpies legend, having previously left heartfelt messages, shirts, scarves and mementos outside St James' Park following his passing.
The free public display at the Baltic Centre offers visitors the chance to pay their respects to Keegan. Among those who attended was Beverley Smith, 50, a carer from Mickley, Northumberland. 'I'm here to honour a special man, a legend who wore his heart on his sleeve,' she said. 'Walking in really pulled on my heart strings, it was very emotional.'
Smith said she had supported Keegan since childhood and was given the nickname 'Little Kevin Keegan' because she wore his number seven shirt while playing football. 'He was so special, he had time for everybody,' she added. 'He showed love for all of us Geordies. He was part of Newcastle and always will be.'
