Norfolk drug dealer, 20, given suspended sentence for £14k haul

Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 12 Oct, 19:02 · Archive

William Lowndes was found with cocaine worth £3,915 and cannabis worth £10,139 after a police raid on his Norfolk home.

William Lowndes, 20, of Brandiston Road, Cawston, was found with almost £14,000 worth of drugs after police executed a warrant at his home address in January. He admitted drugs supply offences and appeared at Norwich Crown Court on 12 October.

Prosecutor Samantha Lowther said officers found 78.4g of cocaine with an estimated street value of £3,915, almost a kilogram of cannabis worth £10,139, and MDMA. Lowndes admitted being concerned in the supply of both cocaine and cannabis, possession with intent to supply both drugs, and possession of MDMA.

Judge Andrew Shaw told Lowndes the supply of class A drugs was 'extremely serious' and that he could have 'no complaint whatsoever' if sentenced to a term of detention. However, Shaw imposed a suspended sentence of 32 months in a Young Offenders Institution, suspended for three years. Shaw told Lowndes 'I doubt you would last five minutes' in custody, saying 'I suspect you have no idea how dangerous some of them could be and how frightening some of them could be'.

Mitigating counsel John Morgans said Lowndes 'knows how serious these offences are' but was only 17 when he first became involved in supplying drugs to users in Norfolk.
