Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 20 Oct, 23:32 · Archive

Phoebe Tonkin will star in a crime series adaptation of The Dark Lake, shot in Perth next year.

Phoebe Tonkin, known for her role as Frankie Bell in the 2024 Netflix series Boy Swallows Universe, will star in a new crime series called The Dark Lake. The show is adapted from the best-selling debut novel by Melbourne-based author Sarah Bailey and will be shot on location in Perth's metropolitan area next year.

Tonkin, 37, has been cast as a rural town detective who must confront dark secrets from her past when investigating the murder of a former high school classmate. The series is being produced by Brouhaha Entertainment, the team behind Boy Swallows Universe. Producer Troy Lum said: 'After visiting Perth for an initial location scout earlier this year, we knew we'd found the perfect home for The Dark Lake.'

The production is expected to inject more than £8.5 million into the Western Australian economy and generate 300 local jobs. Creative Industries Minister Simone McGurk said the project validated the Cook Government's Western Australian Production Attraction Incentive.
