Deejay Tuiasosopo, 16, a Federal Way High School football player from an NFL family, was killed by an alleged drunk driver on a sidewalk near where he had just played a game.

Deejay Tuiasosopo, 16, a first-season footballer at Federal Way High School in Washington, was struck and killed by a car on a sidewalk late Friday. The incident occurred close to where he had just played a game that night. A 29-year-old man was arrested on a vehicular homicide charge for allegedly being under the influence. Police have not disclosed further details about the suspect or the condition of another driver whose vehicle was also involved in the collision.

Tuiasosopo was a 220-pound running back and linebacker who was set to graduate in 2028. His teammate David Rodriguez described him as someone who 'had dreams', saying 'The fact he can't do that, that's just, it just feels sad.'

Tuiasosopo came from a family with deep roots in American football. His grandfather's brother Manu Tuiasosopo, 69, was a first-round NFL draft pick in 1979 who joined the Seattle Seahawks before moving to the San Francisco 49ers in 1984, where he won Super Bowl XIX the following January. Manu's son Marques Tuiasosopo, 47, was the 2001 Rose Bowl MVP and played eight seasons in the NFL for the Raiders and Jets as a quarterback. Another of Manu's sons, Zach, played on practice squads for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles.
