A 30-metre waterfall made from over 5,000 hand-crafted poppies has been installed on St Peter's Church tower in Stockbridge for Remembrance Day.

A 30-metre poppy waterfall has been installed cascading from the tower of St Peter's Church in Stockbridge, made from over 5,000 hand-crafted poppies to mark this year's Remembrance Day. Angela McMeekin led the project with support from a team of seven, beginning to collect poppies at the start of the year. Mrs McMeekin said: 'We started asking people to make poppies at the beginning of the year and we were amazed by the response.'

More than 70 people contributed knitted and stitched poppies to the display. So many were created that some will be saved for another project next year. The waterfall is a joint effort between St Peter's Church and neighbouring churches.

Bob Powell, chair of Stockbridge Parish Council, praised the tribute, saying: 'The fountain of poppies was a fantastic community project that has produced a very special Remembrance Day tribute. It's certainly turning heads on the high street. Angela and her team deserve huge credit for creating such a stunning memorial.' Stockbridge resident Mike Sassi also commended the efforts, stating: 'They have worked incredibly hard. It is a fantastic thing that brings people together.'

St Peter's Church, marking its 160th anniversary this year, will hold its Remembrance Day service on Sunday, November 8 at 10.45am, followed by the two-minute silence at 11am.
