Pet budgie rescued from drain after storm escape

Summarised from BBC Northamptonshire's report · Updated 5 Nov, 07:45 · Archive

A pet budgie escaped from a Northampton flat during Storm Boelo and was rescued from a drain a mile away.

Luna escaped from her Northampton flat when a window blew open during Storm Boelo. A passing motorist spotted the 11-month-old budgie jumping into a drain about a mile from her home and called the RSPCA for help.

On 26 October, RSPCA inspector Richard Durant and trainee rescue officer Rosie Cowie located Luna hiding in a pipe within the drain. Cowie said she "gently grabbed her and popped her in a pet carrier", describing it as her first rescue. Luna has since been returned to her owner, Cimberley Frost, at the flat in Northampton.
