Florida quarterback Tramell Jones Jr. threw two touchdowns in his first career start to beat seventh-ranked Texas 27-24.

Florida defeated seventh-ranked Texas 27-24 in an upset victory on Saturday in Austin. Quarterback Tramell Jones Jr., making his first career start in place of injured Aaron Philo, led a methodical Gators offence that rallied from a 17-3 deficit in the second quarter. Jones threw two touchdown passes to Lacota Dippre; his first cut Texas's lead to 17-10 with 18 seconds left in the second quarter, and his second capped a 15-play drive that consumed eight minutes of the third quarter. Running back Jadan Baugh scored an 11-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Florida's defence, ranked last in the Southeastern Conference, shut down the Texas offence, holding the Longhorns to under 300 yards of total offense. Texas quarterback Arch Manning threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Cam Coleman to briefly retake the lead. Punter Ryan Niblett returned a punt 63 yards for a Texas touchdown in the second quarter.

The victory comes after Florida had risen as high as No. 8 following a 4-0 start under first-year coach Jon Sumrall before suffering consecutive blowout losses. The loss handed Texas their second consecutive defeat.
