President Trump is holding a rally in Ohio as controversy surrounds a Republican candidate's attack ad.

President Trump is holding a rally in Chillicothe, Ohio on Wednesday as two competitive races draw national attention. The visit coincides with growing controversy over Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy's campaign ad featuring the estranged mother of his Democratic opponent Dr. Amy Acton, in which she calls her daughter a liar.

Critics say the ad omits crucial context about Acton's childhood. Acton and her brother were removed from their mother's custody after Acton's stepfather was charged with sexually abusing her. Acton responded at a recent campaign event: 'My opponent has chosen to exploit my childhood to save his struggling campaign, but it's not going to work.'

The ad has drawn criticism from lawmakers in both parties, including Ohio's Republican governor Mike DeWine. However, Ramaswamy has defended the commercial, arguing that voters should be allowed to hear the allegations and make their own decisions. Trump has also repeatedly defended it. 'The mother said terrible things,' Trump said. 'Anybody seeing that would say, no way I'm voting for her.' Recent polls suggest Democrats are gaining ground in Ohio, raising the stakes for Trump's campaign stop.

Wednesday's rally will also spotlight Ohio's competitive U.S. Senate race between Republican senator Jon Husted and Democrat Sherrod Brown, which could help determine which party controls the chamber.
