Hypercar engineer builds global HQ in Essex childhood village

Summarised from 2 outlets · Updated 25 Oct, 06:02 · Archive

Hypercar engineering firm Tecniq is building its global headquarters at Oval Park near Maldon, founder Nigel Lempriere's childhood home.

Hypercar engineering firm Tecniq has begun construction on its global headquarters at Oval Park in Ulting, near Maldon. The project marks a return for founder Nigel Lempriere, who is Thurrock-born and spent childhood summers in Maldon with his grandparents. 'This is my life's work,' Lempriere said of the development.

The company now employs more than 330 people and works with some of the world's most exclusive car makers, including Mercedes, Aston Martin and Lotus. It is helping develop the next generation of ultra-premium performance vehicles. Fifteen years ago, when it was known as ADP Special Projects, Tecniq was a small specialist consultancy.

Lempriere's engineering career took him from Essex to Sweden, Holland, Germany and the United States. He worked on projects for Ford, Volvo, Saab and Chrysler, and later joined programmes for Porsche and Mercedes-Benz. One of his defining challenges came leading a small team on Mercedes' flagship Maybach luxury saloon, where he redesigned key crash structures under intense time pressure. Yet despite his career flourishing abroad, he always intended to return to the Maldon district where his grandparents used to take him to swim in the lake and spend weekends in summer.
