Scottish government proposes radical shake-up of local council structure

Scotland's government has published proposals to replace the current local council structure with between six and ten regional authorities and up to 160 community bodies.

The proposals represent the first major overhaul of Scottish local government in almost 30 years. Glasgow City Council and other existing councils could be scrapped under the plan, which would introduce a new two-tier system of larger regional authorities and smaller community-level bodies.
