A Leicestershire Police officer has been barred from policing after a misconduct panel found them guilty of contacting sex workers and being dishonest. The officer, who joined the force in 2004 but has since resigned, claimed they lent their phone to a stranger during a night out who made the calls. The panel ruled this account 'implausible and untrue', finding the officer was 'persistently trying to procure sexual services'. Ethan Taylor, 23, from Leicestershire, was jailed for seven years and eight months in July after admitting 23 offences including burglary and theft. Taylor was part of a gang that used a blowtorch to break into homes and steal car keys. He has three months to pay or face a further six months imprisonment.

Leicestershire Live reports that a survey of 248 Leicestershire Police officers found 70 per cent too fatigued to carry out their duties, and 67 per cent would not recommend joining the service. The survey also found 73 per cent said their workload was too high or much too high. Officers attributed fatigue to long hours and overtime, as well as mental stress from the volume of work rather than its nature, combined with insufficient resources to complete tasks.

A 53-year-old man waved a kitchen knife at a group of mothers who had set up a paddling pool with three children aged under 10 on a communal lawn in Rowlatts Hill, Leicester, in May. Two people have been taken to hospital following a crash involving a vehicle that had been pursued by police in Leicester city centre on Wednesday. Ma-Kyi Nugent-Clarke, 26, was arrested in Leicester city centre in April after police found a combat knife on him. The judge described it as 'a knife designed as an offensive weapon to intimidate people and to cause them serious injury'. This is his third conviction for carrying a knife. Nugent-Clarke had no reasonable excuse for having the weapon, his barrister told the court, and he is facing jail.
